Cleansing seems like the easiest part of your skincare routine.
Wash your face. Rinse. Done.
But we see it all the time. Clients invest in quality skincare products and treatments, yet a few simple cleansing habits keep their skin from looking and feeling its best.
If your skin feels irritated, dry, congested, or like it's just not improving the way you'd hoped, one of these mistakes could be the reason.
1. Using Water That's Too Hot
We get it.
A hot shower feels amazing.
Your skin, however, might disagree.
Hot water can strip away your skin's natural oils and disrupt your skin barrier, leaving your skin feeling tight, dry, or more sensitive than usual.
If you already struggle with acne, redness, or sensitive skin, hot water can make those concerns even more noticeable.
Instead, wash your face with lukewarm water.
Your skin should feel clean afterward, not squeaky or stripped.
2. Cleansing With Dirty Hands
This one is easy to overlook.
You're washing your face anyway, right?
But if your hands aren't clean before you start, you're transferring dirt, oil, and bacteria directly onto your skin.
Take the extra 20 seconds to wash your hands first.
It's a simple habit that helps keep your cleanser doing its job instead of fighting against extra buildup.
3. Drying Your Face With a Dirty Towel
When was the last time you changed your face towel?
Be honest. đ
Towels collect bacteria, oil, dead skin cells, makeup residue, and moisture, which creates the perfect environment for unwanted buildup.
Using the same towel over and over can contribute to irritation and may aggravate acne-prone skin.
We recommend:
⢠Using a clean towel every few days
⢠Keeping a towel specifically for your face
⢠Gently patting the skin dry instead of rubbing
Your skin doesn't need extra friction.
4. Not Using the Right Cleanser
This is probably the biggest mistake we see.
The "best" cleanser isn't the one trending on social media.
It's the one that's right for YOUR skin.
If your cleanser leaves your skin feeling tight, burns when you use it, or doesn't address your skin concerns, it may be time for a change.

The Bottom Line
Healthy skin doesn't always require a complicated routine.
Sometimes it's about getting the basics right.
Use lukewarm water.
Wash your hands first.
Use a clean towel.
And choose a cleanser that's made for your skin, not someone else's.
Small habits matter.
And when done consistently, they can make a bigger difference than you think.
